but how…

Finally going to the doctor, get a diagnosis and prescriptions to help. You feel much better and that’s great! Medications can help! But there is more to mental health than just a diagnosis, prescriptions, and therapy. Please DO NOT misunderstand me…we strongly encourage each person to be seen by a medical professional and have a therapist as well. But those alone will not aid in your recovery from this point on in your life. After a short time, you will more than likely see things return as they once were. You may even be given another diagnosis, more medications, etc.

The thing to remember here is …you are not your diagnosis. It is not a death sentence! It is not a label. It is merely a way in which our society chooses to deal with the things of our physical body. It is something to be aware of in your everyday life…just as we are to be aware of our health, our eating habits, our exercise, etc. Your diagnosis does not define you and should never be our main focus – that should only and always be Jesus.

I’ve tried everything and nothing helps. I’m at the end of my rope. Is there no one who can do anything for me? Isn’t that the real question? The answer, thank God, is that Jesus Christ can and does. He acted to set things right in this life of contradictions where I want to serve God with all my heart and mind, but am pulled by the influence of sin to do something totally different.

Romans 7:24-25 MSG

We cannot do this life on our own apart from God and He never meant for us to try it on our own. That is why He sent His Son and His Holy Spirit to help us!

So how do we go about letting Them (God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit) help us? I get that the Bible can be very overwhelming! It’s huge! It has a lot of stuff in it that can be confusing! But it also is chalked full of instructions and encouragement for us as we go through every day life! Check these Scriptures out here as an example:

“Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. This is My command — be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Joshua 1:8-9 NLT

“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the Lord. ‘They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for Me wholeheartedly,

you will find Me.'”

Jeremiah 29:11-13 NLT

“For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.”

1 John 5:4-5 NLT

Oh friend, the Bible goes on and on about how He is right there with us, every step of the way, no matter what! He doesn’t promise our life to be all roses…we do live in a fallen world. But He promises to never leave us to go this life alone. So how do we go about everyday life with depression and anxiety, chemical imbalances, horrific past and trauma upon trauma?

“Our life difficulties are the primary means through which God does His finest work in refining our faith, renewing our minds and transforming us.”

The very fact that the Bible says our faith needs refining suggests that at least a portion of our faith is impure. That means that not everything we believe is true.

What is truth? Well, this day and age that is a loaded question…or rather, whatever you want it to be.

However, the mere fact that 2+2=4 always remains 4 reveals that there is a truth that, whether we want to believe it or not, choose to believe it or not, realize it exist or not is beside the point. Much like the oxygen that we breathe in and out…whether awake or asleep or unconscious…it still exists and is real. The Bible even goes so far to say in Romans that:

“They know the truth about God because He has made it obvious to them. For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see His invisible qualities — His eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.”

Romans 1:19-20 NLT

We seriously could go on and on about the Truth, but let’s get back to the question at hand…how are we to go through everyday life with depression and anxiety along with every other battle we encounter on a regular basis? Let’s get back to the whole reason for this discussion…understanding how to go about everyday life inspite of depression and anxiety and all this world throws at us! Once we have established that we have accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior – we realize we are sinners and we cannot save ourselves. Thank God He made a way for us to be in a right relationship with HIM through His Son, Jesus Christ! It is a free gift, we simply need to accept this gift!

OK – now we are ready to move forward…we have this amazing gift of being in a right relationship with God, the Creator of the world…yet we still struggle day in and day out in depression and anxiety and everything else that we battle.

We must recognize that when our heart or mind is longing for something that isn’t there…the refrigerator, pantry, shopping, alcohol, drugs, etc. THIS is precisely the time we need to choose to stop and draw near to God. Ask Him, “God what is it that is welling up within me causing this feeling?” THIS is precisely the position we must be in order for God to enable us to identify the lies that have been holding us hostage for far too long! Transformation Prayer Ministry is a tool God uses to enable us to position ourself so that He can bring His truth into our heart to replace the lies within us that we may not even be aware of for far too long!

We here at Anchored HOPE are committed to Transformation Prayer as a means of positioning oneself with God in an effort for Him to refine us, transform us into all He created us to be both now and forever.
